The purpose of the first feast in Daniel was for King Belshazzar’s nobles. He celebrated a banquet and in honor of them they ate a feast. King Belshazzar brought out his best china, the gold and silver goblets, for the nobles and their wives. Another feast in Daniel was the feast that the Babylonians created for their idol Bel; which they provided six bushels of fine flour, forty sheep, and six measures of wine daily. Another feast in Daniel is the meal the Lord provided for Daniel; it was his way of honoring Daniel for his loyalty. The last feast described in Daniel is the feast the lions had in their den. Nancy Pham The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor people. In Daniel 5, King Belshazzar gave a huge banquet for his many nobles. However, Belshazzar is very prideful. Nebuchnezzar took advantage of his gifts and powers, so God punished him by taking everything away. Nebuchnezzar had to live with the animals and one day he realized there is only one High God who is king over all the kingdoms on earth. In comparison to his father, Belshazzar also takes his power and gifts for granted. So for that, Belshazzar was killed and another person took over his kingdom. In Daniel 14, the feast was for the idol, Bel. Babylonians would worship this idol, because a feast was put out for him every day and the feast would be all gone by morning, even when the temple was sealed. King Astyages worshiped this idol for the fact that it ate so much. He wondered why Daniel worshiped God, instead of this idol that proved he was real by eating so much every day. Daniel told him that he worshiped the creator of heaven and earth, not an idol that was created by human hands. So to prove that the idol was not real, Daniel sprinkled ash all over the temple right before it was sealed up for the night. Indeed, all of the food was eaten, but footprints were found all around the feasting table. Thus, proving that the idol is not real, but people of the temple were entering through a secret entrance to eat the food. Both stories represent strong faith in God. The feasts were performed to honor people, but not the right people. These stories demonstrated the consequences of worshiping human-made gods, instead of the Almighty God. Belshazzar couldn’t read so he said to everyone “whoever reads this writing and tells me what it means will be clothed in purple and have a gold chain placed around his neck, and he will be made the third highest ruler in the kingdom.” No one was able to read the writing but Daniel. Daniel told Belshazzar, who set himself up against the Lord of heaven, was being punished for not honoring “God who holds in his hand your life and all your way”. The ancient feast and modern day feast are similar. They both have feast that are honoring someone and have a spiritual meaning related to them. In the feasts food, drinks, and good silver ware are being used. Ancient feasts were in honor to someone that they worshiped, as in Daniel they were worshiping the wrong person. Modern day feasts occur in the honor of a holiday, mainly dealing with religion or from an event that has occurred in the past. For examples; the holidays are Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving and St. Joseph’s Altars Day. Both ancient and modern feasts are bringing people together to celebrate something that means a lot to them.
The feasts described in Daniel were held for people in power. King Belshazzar would bring out his best dishes for this feast in honor of his nobles. Belshazzar ordered his servants to bring the stolen gold and silver goblets from Jerusalem so that the king and his nobles may drink from them. By doing so he had made himself equal to God. God was angered by his actions and had written messages placed on the walls. Belshazzar could not read so he offered to make whoever could read it the third highest ruler in the kingdom, clothe them in purple, and have a gold chain placed upon them. The only person able to read it was Daniel. Daniel told him that he was being punished for comparing himself to the Lord and not honoring God for being with him. This feast is similar to the modern day feasts because they are both being held to honor someone. The feast held in Daniel was to honor the king’s nobles while the St. Joseph’s Altars are constructed in honor of St. Joseph. The difference between the two is that King Belshazzar was punished for his actions when he held his feast to honor his nobles. The people who were honoring St. Joseph were blessed for staying faithful and praying to St. Joseph.
In the story “The Writing on the Wall”, King Belshazzar held the feast for himself, his nobles, his wives, and his concubines to show the people of the kingdom that he had power and wealth. He wanted to show that with his power and wealth he was over everyone. He even put other materialistic things like silver and gold over God himself. In the story “Bel and the Dragon” a feast was put in front of the god Bel daily. People believed that Bel was a real god because all the food put out the day before would be gone by the next day. Feasts were mainly used to show two things in ancient times. Feasts were used to show wealth and power to other peasants and others who were less fortunate. Feasts were also used to show reverence to gods, events, and important people. St Joseph’s Day feasts are much like the feast of ancient times. There is an overabundance of food and drink sprawled about one table. However the St. Joseph’s Day feast is for worshipping and thanking God for everything he has gave the human race, not for showing off what one has and what one can afford. Not only do we have feasts on St. Joseph’s Day in modern times. We also have feasts on many special occasions from holidays Christmas and Thanksgiving to personal days like birthdays and weddings.

In "The Writing on the Wall," there is a feast that is held by King Belshazzar and other types of royalty and their significant others. The feast was meant to honor certain people of the kingdom. It was a huge party with almost thousands of of King Belshazzar's nobles in attendance. During the ceremony, Belshazzar showed himself and acted in way that angered God. Suddenly, a hand starts writing on the wall. Out of the people in attendance at the feast, Daniel was the only one who was capable of reading the message on the wall. Daniel read the message to King Belshazzar, and Belshazzar was not happy with what he heard. Due to how he acted with his riches, God was not please and he was going to punish Belshazzar in a similar way of his father, Nebuchnezzar. Later on that night, he was killled and Darius, who was the mede, became the new king.
In "Bel and the Dragon," there was a feast to see if the "god" Bel was really the person who would eat all the past meals placed before it. Due to Daniel's remarks towards Bel, the king came up with that idea. If Daniel was right, the priests would be killed. If the king was right, Daniel would be killed. They sat out the food and wine, and also sprinkled ashes on the floor. The king locked the door and they went about their business. The next morning, the king and Daniel went to Bel and as they inspected the facility, Daniel noticed the footprints on the floor. The owners of those footprints were arrested and then put to death.
The ancient feasts mentioned in the stories of Daniel had the similarity of Daniel being very faithful to his religion and belief in God, despite the reason behind the feast being done in the first place. In a sense, the modern day feasts presented for the St. Joseph's Day feast are done to honor St. Joseph; however, the faith in God that St. Joseph is also being honored.
In the story "The Writing on the Wall", King Belshazzar held a great banquet for about a thousand of his nobles and he drank wine with them. The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor the important people of the kingdom and to show wealth and power to his nobles. While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that his father, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. No one should ever take anything from God, so he showed his anger by having a hand write a message on Belshazzar’s wall and the one who is able to read it will be third highest ruler in the kingdom. Only Daniel was able to read this writing. The Babylonians had an idol called Bel, and every day they provided for it six bushels of fine flour, forty sheep, and six measures of wine. The nobles believed that Bel was a real god because the food on the table were always eaten. Bel was acting like a God and for that he will be punished. When Daniel finds out that Bel had the priests, their wives and children to eat the food overnight, they were put to death and so was Bel. Belshazzar should not have taken his power and gifts for granted and for that, Belshazzar was killed and Daniel took over his kingdom.
Ancient feasts and modern St. Joseph's feasts are both similar to each other. They both are very faithful to their religion and their God. Like ancient feasts, St. Joseph feasts also have the same way of honoring by placing big amounts of meals on the table. They are also different. The difference between the two is that King Belshazzar was punished for his actions when he held his feast to honor his nobles. The people that honored St. Joseph were blessed for staying faithful to him.
The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor King Belshazzar’s nobles. They would celebrate their feast by drinking wine in stolen gold and silver goblets from Jerusalem. During their drinking of wine they like to praise to the gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, and wood. Since King Belshazzar worshipped different gods, this made the real God angry. God scared the King Belshazzar by making a human hand appear and write a message on the wall. The king could not read the message so he offered a reward to anyone that can read it. Whoever can read it would be clothed in purple and have a gold chain around their neck. No one could read it, not even enchanters, astrologers, and diviners. Then the queen pointed out that a man named Daniel would be able to read it. It says that Kind Belshazzar’s reign will come to an end and he will lose his kingdom which became true. This can relate to modern day St. Joseph Days feast because it is celebrate kind of in a similar way. St. Joseph Day is celebrated by having things like decorated foods put on an alter. Then people honor St. Joseph for his miracles. So the similar things between the two was a feast celebrating a person or persons and the difference between the two is that King Belshazzar’s feast was against God and St. Joseph Day feast is sort of with God.
The reason for the feasts described in Daniel were to honor a king named Belshazzar and his servants. While King Belshazzar and his nobles and servants were drinking alcohol and having a time at the feast, they would all worship different false gods. These gods included the god of wood, bronze, gold, and silver. Because this mad God upset, he made something scary happen in front of King Belshazzar and his nobles and servants. He made a hand appear out of thin air and write a message on the wall that the king could not interpret for himself. He offered a large reward for anyone who could interpret the message for him. This is where Daniel fits into the story. Daniel was the only one who could read the message that God had sent King Belshazzar. If Daniel were able to interpret the message, he would be clothed in purple clothes and a large gold chain. When Daniel read the message, it read King Belshazzar’s reign will come to an abrupt end and he will lose his kingdom. This eventually became true. This can be related to St. Josephs Day because in the story, there was a large feast on an altar. St. Josephs Day is a large collaboration of many different foods placed on an altar as well. When St. Josephs Day rolls around, we give thanks to St. Joseph and all of the good things that he has done. Even though King Belshazzar worshiped many different false gods, and on St. Josephs Day we worship the real God and give thanks to St. Joseph, in both situations someone is worshiped and there is always someone that thanks is being given to.
The purpose of the great feast that King Belshazzar gave was to honor a thousand of his nobles. While drinking his wine he gave orders to bring out the forbidden gold and silver goblets that his father sealed away in Jerusalem so that his nobles and his wives could use them. As they drank the wine they praised the gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone. They praised these gods without praising the living God. So God wrote the dear king a little note on the ceiling and it freighting the king tremendously because no one could read what it said. The king then sent for Daniel to read what it said and the king in return promised him purple cloth a gold chain and the title of third highest ruler in the kingdom. Daniel told him that it said Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin, which meant God has numbered the days of your reign, you have been weighted on scales and found for wanting and your kingdom will be divided and given to Medes and Persians. It all happens to the king. In the next story they gave feast to this Babylonian idol called Bel. They thought that it at all the food that they gave it daily and they began to praise it. It was really the kings nobles and their wives and children who ate all the food. They king was furious and killed them all. They story of St. Joseph is much different form these in that story they feast because St. Joseph ask the Lord to save them from famine and to allow their crop to grow so that they survive. They don’t praise or worship St. Joseph they just have these feast to thank him for asking God for them. The feast is just a way of showing thanks.
The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor King Belshazzar and a thousand of his nobles. When the king would drink his wine, he would give orders to bring in gold and silver cups his father had obtained in Jerusalem. While drinking the wine, they would worship different gods like the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone. This was a form of disrespect show by King Belshazzar towards god. God wrote a message on the Kings wall in which only Daniel was able to read. Daniel told the king that he was acting like god and therefore will be punished for it. He then told the king about his father Nebuchnezzar and how he tried to take advantage of god. God punished his father by taking away all of his riches. Daniel told him about how his father came to realize god and that the king would face severe consequences. Later that night, the king was killed. Daniel 14 states the feast was for an idol the Babylonians worshiped. The people believed that the idol was eating the food. Daniel didn’t believe that the idol was a god because there is only one true god. King Astyages wondered why Daniel didn’t think the idol was a god and Daniel decided to show them why. Daniel sprinkled ash on the idol and proved that the idol wasn’t the one eating the food. Instead, there were tracks showing a secret passage where the people were coming in eating the food. In both of these stories, the feast was in honor of idols and kings but the feasts weren’t honoring the right people. These ancient feasts compare to modern day feast because they were both honoring people. Today our feast is in honor of Saint Joseph to show our thanks.
The purpose of one of the feasts in Daniel was for King Belshazzar’s nobles. He would host a banquet-like gathering where the nobles would be praised for their efforts and fulfilling their duties. The nobles and their families would use the king’s finest silverware and dishes. Another feast in Daniel was the feast that the Babylonians created for Bel. This was their idol of which they would give daily sacrifices of bushels, sheep, and wine. In another feast, the Lord provided a feast for Daniel for his loyalty to him. The last feast described in Daniel is the feast the lions had in their denThis feast was to honor the lions. When they had an opportunity to eat Daniel, they resisted, even when they hadn’t eaten in days. For this, they were blessed with much food. The ancient feast and modern day feast are similar. Most feasts in both the ancient times and modern day were to honor someone, or a group of individuals. Like in Daniel, most feasts were in honor of an individual or someone they admired. Today it is the same. Feasts are held because of special occasions or even holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, or St. Joseph’s Altars Day.
In Daniel 5, "The Writing on the Wall" and Daniel 14 "Bel and the Dragon" there were feasts. In Daniel 5 the purpose of the feast was to honor King Belshazzar's nobles. The king orders his servants to collect gold and silver goblets that were stolen from the temple in Jerusalem. the servants did so and the king and his nobles drank from them. During the feast a hand appeared and wrote "Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin" meaning "God has numbered the days of your reign and brought it to an end. You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting. Your kingdom is divided and given to the Mendes and Persians." God did this because Belshazzar was full of greed and pride, two of the seven deadly sins. In "Bel and the Dragon" the purpose of the feast was to honor and idol called Bel in which the Babylonians provided with six bushels of fine flour, 40 sheep, and six measures of wine each day. The king asked Daniel why he did not worship Bel and answered saying that he only honors his God the creator. Daniel also told the king that Bel was not real and that Bel was not consuming the food that was left for him everyday. The king ordered the priests to set up the feast only to find out that it was them that was consuming the food, along with their wives and kids. They were put to death. Ancient feast and modern feasts are alike in many different ways. Feasts are created in order to honor. The ancient feasts honored "gods" of many sorts. Modern day feasts, like the alter also honored God.
The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor both King Belshazzar and all his nobles. During the extravagant feast the king gave orders to his servants to bring the gold and silver cups and chalices this father took from the temple in Jerusalem. King Belshazzar did this to show off his riches and put himself on a pedestal even with God. This angered God and so a hand appeared that wrote a message for the proud king on his wall. The king could not read the message so he made a plea that anyone who could tell him what the writing meant would be clothed in purple and have a gold chain about their neck. This person would also be the third highest ruler in his entire kingdom. The only person who could read the mysterious message was Daniel. He relayed the divine message to King Belshazzar that he was being punished for comparing himself to God, which is a serious offense and insult. Feasts like these in ancient times are exactly identical to the modern St. Joseph’s day feasts but they do share similarities and bear some resemblances. In both cases, a feast is used to honor a person or group of people for a specific reason. In Daniel, the feast is to honor nobles but mainly served to make the king feel like a god. Instead today, feast are for honor people we aspire to be like. Some examples include in Christmas (Jesus Christ), Thanksgiving (the “kind” pilgrims), and of course St. Joseph’s Day (St. Joseph). Both include a surplus of food and drink which has been a social aspect of humans lives for hundreds of years. It serves as a way to bring people together to recognize and honor others who deserve such treatment.
The purpose of the feasts described in Daniel 5 was to honor King Belshazzar’s nobles. In the scripture Belshazzar orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. As Belshazzar and hi nobles drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, when suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN. Since he could not understand the writing he called in Daniel one of the exiles of Belshazzar’s father who had the spirit of the god in him and great insight, intelligence and outstanding wisdom. Daniel explained to Belshazzar that he did not humble himself and he did not God who holds in his hand his life. Therefore God sent the hand that wrote the inscription. Daniel translated the inscription and that night Belshazzar, was killed and another man named Darius the Mede took over the kingdom. In Daniel 14, the purpose of the feast was to honor, Bel an idol whom, King Astyages and the Babylonians worship. King Astyages honored Bel supposedly eating and drinking so much while Daniel praised and honored God. Daniel explained to Astyages that he did not worship Bel because he does not revere idols made with hands, but only the living God who made heaven and earth and has dominion over all flesh. To prove who was the real God, Astyages called the priests and prepared a meal for Bel in a locked temple, where Daniel ordered his servants to bring some ashes, which they scattered through the whole temple. The next morning the temple was checked and all the food was gone but the priests, their wives and children who had also left their footprints behind ate it. This proved that Bel, was not the real God, but the God of Daniel was real. Ancient feast compare to modern St. Joseph’s Day feasts because they are both fests to honor a particular person. In ancient times feast were very big banquets and had many of foods just as a modern St. Joseph’s Day feast.
The purpose of the feasts describe in Daniel was for King Belshazzar's nobels. In the writing Belshazzar had stolen gold and silver brought to him by his servants. The gold and silver were stolen from Jerusalum. He got the gold and silver cups brought to him by his servants so they could drink from them. By him doing that it was him equaling his self to He had them praise the Gods of gold and silver instead of the one God he should have really been praising. God. That angered God and he wrote a message to Belshazzar. Only Daniel was able to read the message that God wrote to Belshazzar. God punished him. Belshazzar was killed. In ancient time feast were recognized as banquets but still had the same concept as tolday feast such as St. Joesph's Day Feasts. St. Joesph's is quiet the same because there is still the big spread of food and also the honoring of someone.

ReplyDeleteIn "The Writing on the Wall," there is a feast that is held by King Belshazzar and other types of royalty and their significant others.

ReplyDeleteIn the story "The Writing on the Wall", King Belshazzar held a great banquet for about a thousand of his nobles and he drank wine with them.

ReplyDeleteThe purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor King Belshazzar’s nobles.
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of the great feast that King Belshazzar gave was to honor a thousand of his nobles.
ReplyDeleteThe purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor King Belshazzar and a thousand of his nobles.

ReplyDeleteThe purpose of one of the feasts in Daniel was for King Belshazzar’s nobles.

ReplyDeleteThe purpose of the feasts described in Daniel was to honor both King Belshazzar and all his nobles.

ReplyDeleteThe purpose of the feasts described in Daniel 5 was to honor King Belshazzar’s nobles. In the scripture Belshazzar orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them. As Belshazzar and hi nobles drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone, when
suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN. Daniel translated the inscription and that night
Belshazzar, was killed and another man named Darius the Mede took over the kingdom.
ReplyDeleteIn ancient time feast were recognized as banquets but still had the same concept as tolday feast such as St. Joesph's Day Feasts.
St. Joesph's is quiet the same because there is still the big spread of food and also the honoring of someone.
